GUC Approach to Governance
The framework below provides an overview of the corporate governance structures, principles, policies and practices of the Board of Directors (the board) of Ghana Union of Canada, which together enable GUC to meet governance expectations of the Corporations Canada, Canada Revenue Agency and other territorial bodies.
GUC is committed to high standards of governance that are consistent with regulatory expectations and evolving best practices that are aligned with our Community engagement strategy and operational competency. We believe that good governance is not just about overseeing GUC and its practices, but doing so in a way that is transparent, independent of management and ethical. It involves the board actively engaging with all stakeholders, knowing the business and its challenges, challenging management where necessary, understanding the challenges and opportunities of a changing industry and economy, setting robust standards and principles that will guide GUC to success and helping members strive and communities prosper all to ensure were constantly enhancing value for our stakeholders. This is what GUC governing body aims at every day.
Leadership Structure
The GUC is governed by its Board of Directors, Executive Committee and General Council. The Board of Directors have fiduciary responsibility for the organization. Responsibility for program implementation lies within the GUC Executive Committee under the direction of the Executive Chair. The executive committed is elected on a fixed tenure. The general Council comprise of Chapter representatives and leaders of various Special Interest Groups.
