IMMIGRATION

Partner with the federal government to:

  • Understand current & projected Canada's immigration trend and how it relates to Ghana  i.e. percentage allocation of immigration per year, visa application rejection rate, remove/deportation notices rate etc.
  • Collating data in relation to new immigration policies on deportation, assess percentage of Ghanaian community that have benefited from new policy implementation etc.
  • Remediating existing policies that negatively impacts the Ghanaian community, request involvement in new policies enactment.
  • Reduce disparities in immigration processing timeliness, visa rejection rate and country-specific visas requirements compared to other African countries and globally.
  • Advocate for other short term immigration avenues from Ghana.


SETTLEMENT

Partner with Canada's federal government to:

    Identify discrepancies/gaps in existing settlement policies and present such to both community and federal government.
  • Seeks for federal government funding opportunities for Ghanaian settlement originations & group.
  • Share information on federal govt settlement funding services with local Ghanaian settlement organizations.
  • Advocate for social issues such as racism etc. that impact our community.
  • Liaise with Canadian High Commission in Ghana to share GUC website to new immigrants of all categories.
  • Provide province-specific settlement program information to members to assist with decision-making on settlement.
  • Provide tools to augment existing program offerings of Citizenship and Immigration Canada, partner organization, groups etc; meant to assist new immigrant settlement in Canada.
  • Encourage new immigrants to join provincial & local associations, cultural groups, professional bodies etc. for education & safety net.

Within the Ghanaian the Community: GUC will

  • Provide guidance on how funded services offered to new immigrants can be fine-tune assist new immigrant settle and adjust to their new life in Canada.
  • Liaise with Settlement Services offering including - Interpretation and translation of settlement programs, arrangement of community services information (schools, health, employment, family services) confidential, individualized and has multicultural dimensions unique to new Ghanaian immigrants and how that could aid their effort in settling in their new country.


INTEGRATION

GUC's Service offering - to community members and member organizations includes:

  • Synthesizing federal government's economic & socio-cultural projection docs meant to help groups to integrate broadly into Canadian economic and social-cultural landscape. E.g. labour market stats, nuances between legal various inter-governmental legal & political framework, service offerings etc.
  • Develop network of professionals that can mentor or assist new entrants into various professional landscape in Canada.
  • Create specific programs to assist younger demographics in understanding demands and prospects of professions and mirror that to individual unique strength and capabilities when choosing careers.
  • Educate the community (in conjunction with local association) Canada's legal framework, structures and resources, i.e. on what constitute a crime and the perils of, managing encounters with law enforcement, identifying & managing forms of racism, membership into professional bodies etc. Liaise with local association to organize or host such education.
  • Establish SLA with inter-gov't bodies to have first right to children entering & existing Canada's social welfare system, before & after incarceration icustody, foster placement, in-mate release & detention etc. (negotiate with provincial gov't)
  • Identify federal gov resources & share that can help second & third generation of our rich African & Ghanaian history, cultures & cultural practices, identity and that of Canada.
